Soggy grounds and all, play went on in the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association on Saturday.

While most other cricket competitions were called off, the MPCA First and Second XI competitions got various amounts of play in.

Rain in the afternoon sent players scurrying from the field but there were still some eye-popping performances and vital wins.

Casey South Melbourne young gun Devlin Webb was in blazing form for Hastings, smashing 109 off 121 balls in a losing cause against Rosebud in District division.

Grabbing an opportunity to get a game in while Victorian Premier Cricket is yet to start this season, Webb opened the batting for the Blues and hit a six and 6 fours as they made 8-176 in reply to Rosebud’s 6-216.

Rosebud was inspired by an aggressive 45 at the top of the list by Mt Eliza recruit James Egan and also No. 5 Liam Collett’s 53 off 54 balls, with 4 fours.

Ash Mills (42), Kane Donald (34) and recruit Sean Barry (24no off 24) also fired as the Sharks zoomed past 200.

Mills then grabbed 4-41 and Collett 2-21 to help Rosebud bank its second win of the season, pleasing coach Nick Jewell.

“Both the Nagels (Patrick and Ash) were unavailable and Jarrod Hicks, our recruit who was captain of Eden Park, they all had weddings yesterday,” Jewell said.

“Three big outs so it was terrific to get that result.”

Jewell said Webb’s century was full of class.

“Yeah, good knock,“ he said.

“He’s obviously got a bit of talent but if he’s going to be playing Premier Cricket, you’d expect him to be going pretty well in Div 3 cricket when he’s available. He hit the ball cleanly and batted really well.”

The only other side to get a win in District was Carrum Downs, beating Carrum.

Cougars skipper Gordon Waterfall made a crisp 55 to set up victory before Ryan Lynch (4-17) and Lachlan Imlach (4-8) bowled superbly to complete the job.

In Peninsula division, Dromana opener Kierran Voelkl peeled off an unbeaten 98 off 120 balls, with 10 fours, to set up the Hoppers’ 24-run win over Heatherhill.

Voelkl, who also made 68no in Round 1, shared a 98-run second wicket partnership with former Box Hill Reporter batter Arthur McKenzie (45) to help the Hoppers to 5-197.

English import Rob Willis chimed in with 26 off 25 balls.

In reply, Heatherhill was dismissed for 173, with Dale Irving (3-12), Willis (3-41) and Adam Ciavarella (2-39) sharing the wickets for Dromana.

In Peninsula division, Mt Eliza was in cracking batting form against Flinders before the rain arrived.

The Mounties put up 6-202, with Rashmika Opatha (76) and Billy Biggs (54) putting on 113 for the second wicket. Shaun Cairns bowled well for Flinders, taking 3-32.

In Provincial, Baxter opener Todd Quinn was on 63 off 88 balls and his side 6-151 off 33.3 overs against Pines when play was abandoned. Baxter skipper Daniel Warwick made 42.

At Lloyd Park, Langwarrin paceman Jackson Mockett trapped his former Frankston Peninsula teammate Dale Elmi leg before for a golden duck before the game against Baden Powell was washed out.

Mockett took 2-16 off eight overs as Baden Powell was kept to 9-118 off 40 overs.

Dylan Campbell made an impressive return from injury to grab 3-16 and Matt Prosser snared 2-16. Coen Chernishoff top scored for BP with 29.

Red Hill was the only side in Provincial to get a win, jumping to second spot after upsetting reigning premiers Old Peninsula — and the Hillmen did it without Simon Dart.

Brent Martin (32) and Tom Lewis (29) helped the Hillmen to 9-140 off 35 overs before Old Peninsula was shot out for 99 in reply. Luke Robertson, Jamie McCall, Jarrod Klauer and Chris Dew took two wickets apiece for the winners.

In Sub District, Balnarring and Boneo both banked wins to consolidate first and second spot respectively.

Former Heat all rounder Josh Peet was in cracking form for Boneo, taking 3-21 and making 29. Jarvis Andersen also impressed for the Pandas, making 31no.

UK import Isaac Harrison and Papua New Guinean cricketer Charles Amini put on a batting masterclass in Somerville’s seconds.

Harrison blasted 120 not out and Amini 90 as the Eagles put up 4-301 against Seaford Tigers before rain halted play.

Harrison has level 2 coaching accreditation and is offering private coaching sessions this summer. Details: 0475 469 388.
