The pressure of standing under high catch is bad enough, but spare a thought for Crib Point fifths cricketer Duane Annable last Saturday.
You see, his fiance Amie Collison had bowled the delivery — and Annable knew he’d never hear the end of it if he dropped it.
Fortunately for him, he took the catch and an elated Amie was quickly on the scene to celebrate.
“I think there was a double high five and a hug,’’ Annable said.
“It was good fun.’’
Annable said it was the first time he and Collison had played a cricket match together, the couple jumping at the opportunity to take the field for Crib Point against Red Hill in the Mornington Peninsula association’s C3 grade.
While Collison, who also plays in the club’s women’s side, bowled tidily (1-10 off 3 overs) in Cribby’s victory, it was Annable who stole the show.
He blasted 145 in his side’s total of 3-289 off 40 overs, bringing up his ton with a six over square leg.
Annable has been a fine cricketer — he played in Crib Point’s last first XI premiership 20 years ago — but these days he is better known as Crib Point’s senior football coach.
“It was a good opportunity,’’ he said of playing a game with his better half.
“We’ve been trying to make it happen, there was a small window…footy practice games will be firing up soon.’’
Asked who loves cricket more, Annable said: “I think Amie does to be fair. She plays in the women’s side but has played the last four or five with the men.’’
