The first big player movement of the 2021-22 MPCA season has already occurred, with champion batsman Chris Brittain leaving Baxter and joining Provincial powerhouse Langwarrin.
He agreed to terms with the Kangaroos last Friday.
Brittain makes the move after six run-filled seasons with Baxter, where he scored 10 centuries and nearly 4000 runs, at an average of 40.
“It’s massive, we’re absolutely pumped,” Langwarrin president Matt Reddaway said.
“And he’s so excited to get going and playing. So are we.
“We chatted to him last Wednesday...when he walked out we were like, ‘gee, we think we’re pretty close here’.
“And then Friday it was done.”
Brittain has strong links with Langwarrin. He coaches one of the club’s under-10 sides and his children play juniors at the club.
“They’re pretty entrenched here now,” Reddaway said.
“We’re finally getting him, we’ve tried for a few years.”
Langwarrin bowed out of the Provincial semi-finals last week after losing a tight contest to eventual premiers Sorrento.
After the game, paceman Jayde Herrick announced his retirement.
That freed up space in the player points cap, allowing Brittain to join Langwarrin as a two-point player.
Brittain, 41, has scored thousands of runs and over 20 centuries in the MPCA with various clubs, including Heatherhill and Delacombe Park.
He will slot into the Langwarrin top order alongside Tom Hussey, Matt Prosser and Travis Campbell, giving the Kangas a formidable batting line-up.
