“Yep, let’s do it.’’
And with that comment, Chris Brittain is back in the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association after signing with Somerville for the 2025-26 season.
The champion, who has broken run scoring records at clubs including Baxter, will captain Somerville’s First XI.
Brittain last played at Langwarrin two years ago, but has established a connection with Somerville where his daughters Lara and Grace play.
“When I finished up (at Langwarrin) I felt the time was right,’’ Brittain said.
“Spending the last two seasons down at Somerville supporting my girls Lara and Grace in the under 18s and women’s team, (my wife) Louise and I have made some great friends.
“Jugga (Nagel) coached the women’s team this year and the whole club really got behind the girls. We have felt the love.
“We started talking about a return and I liked the idea.
“I trained a couple of times and thought, yep let’s do it. I have missed it so it feels right to have another go.
“Looking at the current 1st eleven there’s a lot to like, it’s exciting to be captaining such talented team next season.’’
Nagel said Brittain’s signing has lifted the club’s spirits.
“Missing out on the finals this season was really disappointing, so getting Britts in as captain and being able to announce it when we did turned the mindset of the players around immediately,’’ he said.
“There is a sense of excitement already, not only among the players but Britts himself.
“He is one of the greats of the MPCA and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the team.
“He has experience, a great cricket brain but also is one of the most respected people that you will come across so it is great to get him to the club.’’
Brittain captained Heatherhill to two Provincial premierships and he also skippered Baxter for a season.
He has scored over 20 First XI centuries in the MPCA.
