The future of Victorian female cricket is in good hands.
The state’s future stars put on a show in recent weeks during the Marg Jennings Cup which brings Victoria’s best junior girls cricketers together.
Melbourne took at this year’s crown with a 102-run win over Carlton in last Friday’s grand final at Beaumaris Secondary College.
A 7-299 effort was enough to put Melbourne in pole position to take out the title.
Here are the best players from across the competition.
Sara Burns, Carlton
Brilliant throughout the tournament for the runners-up with 223 runs at 111.5. The young gun’s average was significantly boosted by two unbeaten scores in the 80s.
Hasrat Gill, Melbourne
The Melbourne youngster has an exciting future ahead of her after scoring 161 runs at 53.7 and taking six wickets through four games.
Bridie Groves, Carlton
Put together a brilliant season with 229 runs at 57.3 with a high score of 75 against Plenty Valley. Groves’ tournament included a run of three straight half-centuries.
Amanpreet Kaur, Essendon Maribyrnong Park
Impacted the competition with both bat and ball. Kaur scored 161 runs at an average of 80.5 while also taking four scalps.
Chantal Mason, Geelong
Mason finished as the competition’s second leading wicket taker with nine scalps at 9.1.
Emma Morgan, Plenty Valley
Despite playing just three games, Morgan proved she is a talent to watch going forward with eight wickets.
Alyse O’Connell, Greenvale Kangaroos
Caused consistent issues for her opponents with eight wickets at 12.8. Her best performance was 5-19 against Geelong in the first game before Christmas.
Amelie O’Meara, Melbourne
The Melbourne young gun was the competition’s leading run scorer with 262 runs at 65.5 including a 128 not out against Dandenong. The opener scored a half-century in the final against Carlton. She then returned to Melbourne’s Second XI at the weekend to score a wonderful 152 not out.
Lucy Page, Melbourne
Page showed off her ability with the bat and ball scoring 160 runs highlighted by a century against Dandenong. She also finished with four wickets for the tournament.
Matilda Pendergast, Prahran
The Prahran skipper thrived throughout the competition, finishing as the leading wicket taker with 11 at 6.1. Also proved she’s more than handy with the bat highlighted by a 42 against Plenty Valley.
Zoe Samuel, Melbourne
Samuel took a wicket in every game she bowled and in the grand final showed off her tremendous all-round ability with 63 runs and 3-37.
Yashoda Senarathne, Box Hill
Enjoyed a strong tournament for Box Hull with 173 runs at 57.67. Also managed to claim four wickets.
