However, arguably the top striker in Victorian football’s top flight is yet to get any A-League interest.

Boland has scored 22 goals in 24 NPL games this season and hopes his exploits attract the interest of A-League expansion club Western United.

“I’d love for someone to take a chance on me,” Boland told Leader.

“I’m pretty sure (Western United’s) coach has watched a few of our games this year. I’d love the chance, that’s all I’m asking for.

“The two A-League teams I’ve played against in the FFA Cup, I’ve scored four goals in two games, so I’ve proven I can do it.”

Boland scored a brace as the Avengers took Sydney FC to extra-time in last year’s FFA Cup quarter-final and the winner for Green Gully when it knocked Central Coast out in 2016.

The Western Australian product trialled at Gold Coast United under Miron Bleiberg but the club folded before he could earn a chance.

Boland followed Bleiberg to Oakleigh Cannons and believes the shift to Melbourne helped boost his career.

“Definitely, I moved over here from Perth for that reason, to try and go as high as I can with my football and push myself out of my comfort zone,” he said.

“I’ve had a couple of good seasons, but I’d say this has been my best season. I know I’m 27 years old, but I’ve always wanted a crack.”

Boland played 90 minutes as Avondale suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to championship rivals Heidelberg United in Round 25.

The Avengers were the pacesetters for much of the season and Boland believes several of his teammates have proven themselves A-League quality.

“In this team we’ve had a couple of players stand out,” he said.

“Apart from the last few weeks, where we’ve had a couple of hiccups, we’ve been a level above the league with the way we’ve played.

“(Stefan) Zinni has had a great year and Yusef Ahmed has been really good in the last few weeks. We’ve got a few boys that have been brilliant.”
