Guns shine to start Victorian under-18 women Premier Cricket competition

There was a series of impressive performances to open the Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 women’s competition with two players standing out. See the top performers.

Box Hill and Melbourne have emerged as the early pacesetters in the Victorian Premier Cricket Women’s Under-18s competition after impressive starts to the competition on Thursday.

Sarnsiree Plant was the star of the show for Box Hill throughout the day with two powerful batting performances.

She opened the tournament with an unbeaten 92 runs off 63 deliveries in the win over Essendon Maribyrnong Park before backing it up with an 87 off 53 not out in a win against Greenvale Kangaroos.

Plant also managed to take three wickets across the day.

Melbourne won its games against Prahran and Ringwood by 81 runs and seven wickets respectively with captain Hasrat Gill the star.

Against Prahran, she hit 37 runs off 49 balls, with Kamya Mishra top scoring with 44 off 49, and took 4-10 to lead her side to a commanding win.

Then against Ringwood she top scored with an unbeaten 31 to lead her side to victory as Ringwood opener Samara Dulvin produced an impressive 61 off 63 not out innings in the same game to put her side in a strong position.

Carlton also made a perfect start to its campaign with a 40-run win over Dandenong in its only game of the day.

Sara Kennedy’s 46 off 42 helped guide her side to 6-126 from their 20 overs before Dandenong was restricted to just 4-86 in response.

Geelong is also unbeaten after registering a thrilling two-run win over Plenty Valley.

After posting 7-96 after being sent into bat, Geelong was led by Nelita Pistorius who scored 32 off 35.

Three run-outs roved to be decisive in the chase with Annabelle Glossop the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.
