Gun all-rounder Harry Hauenstein will get his first taste of top-flight Premier Cricket this weekend after being named for his first XI debut when Geelong takes on Essendon.
An outstanding talent with bat and ball, Hauenstein won the Jack Sing Medal when playing with South Barwon as the best player in GCA1 last season at age 18, before joining Geelong this summer.
The left-hand bat and medium pacer started the season in top form in the seconds with an unbeaten 107 and backed that up with 58 in his next hit.
He has since passed 25 in three of his four innings and has 267 runs at an average of 53.4 this season, while also chipping in with four wickets.
After his century to start the season in November, Hauenstein said he was “hoping to play a couple of games throughout the season” in the firsts.
The Saturday-Sunday two-dayer against ninth-placed Essendon will be a crucial game for the 12th-placed Geelong.
