DIGGERS REST is not playing at the level it would like.
But the positive for coach Shaun Sims is his side is still chalking up wins.
The Burras were good in some aspects of their game against Macedon on Saturday and not so good in others.
But the final result was a 11.9 (75) to 10.6 (66) away win which has left Diggers Rest well placed in fourth spot on the ladder with a 5-2 record.
“They were an undefeated team so we’ll take the win and walk away pretty happy,” Sims said.
“We’d like to be playing better footy but we’ve just got to keep improving.”
The visitors dominated much of the opening term at Tony Clarke Reserve — at least in general play.
They had 14 inside 50s to four for the quarter but did not make the most of the dominance on the scoreboard and trailed by nine points at the first change.
A four-goal-to-two second quarter gave the Burras a half-time advantage before Macedon again hit back to hold an eight-point lead at three-quarter time.
But Diggers Rest powered home in the final quarter, finally finding a way to goal to pile on four unanswered majors and take the points.
“We dominated inside 50s for the whole day really but they defended well and we just couldn’t find a way to score until the last quarter really,” Sims said.
“I’m sure they (Macedon) are a contender. They’ve got some quality players now but I thought we shut down a couple of them on the weekend which went a long way to us winning the game.”
Mark Freeth was named Diggers Rest’s best after shutting down Cats midfielder Shaun Harrison.
In defence, Thomas Gleeson held Macedon’s Marcus Kenny to three goals.
Stuart Clarke, Jason Williams and Patrick Jackson (three goals) were others to impress for the Burras.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Romsey posted a 43-point win over Sunbury Kangaroos, Rupertswood took down Riddell by 49 points and Woodend-Hesket recorded its first win of the season with a 52-point victory over Rockbank.
Broadford edged out Wallan by 10 points, while Melton Centrals had a 44-point win over Kilmore.
