A superb unbeaten 94 by Brad Erasmus set up South Caulfield’s resounding win over Bentleigh in CSB Championship division on Saturday.

The champion right-hander’s 117-ball innings included 7 fours and 1 six and steered South to 5-211 off 40 overs.

Will Russell also impressed with 53 off 52 balls, and he shared a 100-run stand with Erasmus.

In reply, Bentleigh lost both openers for ducks and never threatened, dismissed for 141, despite fighting knocks by skipper Jarrad Dowling (30 off 34 balls) and Alex Caravelas (36).

South Caulfield paceman Harry Bates (1-25) struck early and Lewis Mildenhall (1-19) dismissed Bentleigh star Ben Seabrook for 13, while Jak Jowett (3-20) and Matt McCallum (2-34) bowled beautifully.

Abe Kenny (48), Michael FitzGerald (39) and Chris Ellison (3-23) have helped Hampton to its first win of the season as the Seahorses upset finals-bound Beaumaris.

A 50-run opening stand between FitzGerald and Will Bowden (24) set up Hampton’s 9-188 before Beaumaris replied with 7-163.

Ellison removed three of Beaumaris’ top four batsmen, including star Sam Coates for 35.

Mentone batsman Ed McGarry was felled by a bouncer from Murrumbeena’s English paceman Will Harries in their clash at Hogben/Meckiff Oval.

McGarry underwent a concussion test and continued on as Mentone banked another win to remain in the hunt for finals.

“It got him pretty clean straight on,” Mentone player Simon Cormie said.

“I went out there and did a concussion test, asked him a few questions and he was right as rain, carried on and ramped him a couple of balls later.

“He was fine, he’s a tough young kid.”

Mentone made 6-208, with Calum Fryer top scoring with 52 not out, Cormie 38, skipper Dane Heverin 35 and McGarry 18.

Murrumbeena was dismissed for 190 in reply, with opener Jarrod Martin (62) and skipper Will Kelly (39) and No. 7 Xavier Ross (30no) doing best. Comrey Edgeworth was the pick of Mentone’s bowlers, taking 4-32 with his spinners. McGarry capped an eventful afternoon with three catches and a run out.

Bonbeach consolidated top spot with a gripping win over Mordialloc in the last over.

After restricting Mordi to 8-120, with Harley Dale taking 3-23, Bonbeach squeaked home with two wickets and three balls to spare, making 8-123, with tailenders Sean Gales (15no) and Robbie Lancaster (16no) sharing an unbroken 50-run ninth wicket stand.

*Hampton’s Joe Kenny played his 400th game, becoming only the fourth player in the club’s 115-year history to achieve the milestone.

Joe’s playing career began officially in 1982, however, he had already made an impact on the field before then, having sub fielded in the under 12s as an 8 year old on a few occasions where he effected a number of direct hit run outs. This was a sign of things to come as Joe would go on to become one of the club’s greatest ever fieldsmen.
