Cricket Southern Bayside: Bayside boosted by two overseas players

Bayside is preparing to climb the ladder in Cricket Southern Bayside after securing two overseas players and appointing a new skipper.

Bayside is preparing to climb the ladder after securing two overseas players and regaining a young gun.

The moves have been headlined by the arrival of Will Means, a 22-year-old fast bowler from the UK who has played some second X1 County Cricket.

Joining him will be Rusira Munasinghe, a 25-year-old left hand top order bat and off spinner from Sri Lanka boasting some List A experience.

Bayside has also welcomed back talented teenager James Vakis after two seasons of Premier experience at Kingston Hawthorn.

The Stingrays are also hopeful of luring other former players back to the club.

Star young batsman Harrison Bean has been appointed Bayside’s First XI captain for the 2022-23 season.

He will look to set high standards and let his batting do the talking.

Club legend Darren Moser has been re-appointed coach, and two new assistants have joined him in Greg Vakis and Paul Lamb.

All have extensive playing and coaching experience in the local area, aiding the Stingrays’ quest to continue to build on the skills and game awareness of the young playing list.

Bayside wants it known it is in the market for another young local fast bowler and a top order bat for the First XI.

“Anyone interested in testing themselves in turf cricket are welcome to attend pre season training,’’ the club said.

Bayside pre-season indoor training commences at Young Gun Cricket on Monday nights from August 8, while outdoor training will be from September 1.

Bayside Cricket Club will hold a major pre season function at Southern Golf Club on Friday, August 26.

It is a life members event and pre season launch.

The club hopes all living life members of Highett CC and Moorabbin Park CC will attend and officially be inducted as life members of Bayside CC.

The club will also be announcing two new life members on the night.

Meanwhile, Davey McLeod, after guiding his under 17 team at Bayside to a flag last season, will continue to work with the club’s strong batch of cricketers in the 15-22 age bracket.
