Bonbeach claimed its first CSB Championship division premiership with a gripping 16-run win over Beaumaris in the grand final at Bonbeach.

Making the day even more special, Bonbeach’s second XI also won the flag on the adjacent ground.

“It was a great day for the club,” Bonbeach president Mick Hogan said on Sunday morning.

“Just having two home grand finals and both getting up, yeah, s…, I didn’t think I’d be in a state to talk but I’ve done very well.

“I never would have dreamed we would have won the ones and twos. It’s great for everyone down at the club.”

Bonbeach batted first and posted 8-156 off 40 overs, with skipper Tom Smith making 40 at the top before Robbie Lancaster (34) boosted the score with some lusty late hitting and Daniel Mueller crunching two of the last three balls of the innings for six.

It gave Bonny a total to bowl to.

Hogan said the late contribution by Lancaster and Mueller was “incredibly important”.

“We were looking at 120 and Wiz and Muels came in and smacked a few around and ended up pushing us up to 156,” he said.

In reply, Beaumaris opener Sam Coates made 58 and looked to be steering his side towards the target before Bonbeach spinner AB Das had Coates caught on the boundary by Sean Gales and then moments later Das also dismissed Jonty Leadbeater (13).

Beaumaris was suddenly 5-91 and the momentum had swung towards Bonbeach.

It was left to Mueller to seal victory, the former St Kilda paceman clean bowling the last two Beaumaris batters in the 38th over to end the run chase on 140.

Hogan said it was fitting reward for many of the Bonbeach players.

“A lot of old boys played in the 2010-11 losing grand final,” Hogan said.

“Yesterday was their first one winning. Muels nine years ago came to us to win a flag. Nine years later here we are.”

Bonbeach’s seconds beat Bayside in the flag decider; the Sharks made 9-163 and then held Bayside to 9-156.

Bonny’s jubilant ones players, having finished earlier, watched the finish and cheered on as the club claimed two flags.

Former Sheffield Shield paceman Allan Wise completed a fairytale return to his original club when St Brigid’s St Louis won the CSB Division 1 premiership.

It was the Saints’ first ones flag in 30 years.

Wise grabbed 3-23 off 6 overs as the Saints dismissed Carnegie for 118 to seal a comprehensive 126-run victory in the grand final at Koornang Park.

Wise, 44, contacted the club last year wanting to finish his career where he started it; he had last played with the Saints almost three decades earlier, as an Under 16.

St Brigid’s St Louis openers Mark Jamieson and Trae Love-Linay (45) put on 112 to set a strong foundation before skipper Liam Harris (36) and Jeremy Heys (27) powered the Saints to 7-244 off their 40 overs.

Wise bowled beautifully to dismiss Carnegie openers Ashish Harsolia (6) and Suraj Nageswara Rao (6) as Carnegie slumped to 2-18 and then 4-29. Angus Macquire maintained the pressure for the Saints, grabbing 3-14.
