Coburg has bolsters its attack with a pair of Premier Cricket pacemen.

Will Dundon and Jacob Carruthers have arrived at City Oval from Greenvale Kangaroos and Richmond respectively.

They’ll be joined by Zac Margariti (Greenvale) and Charlie Bolmat (Aberfeldie) as the Lions unveiled a clutch of new recruits on Wednesday.

Securing Dundon’s services is a massive coup for the VSDCA club after he cemented his place in Greenvale’s First XI last season.

The right-arm quick snared 11 wickets in eight matches at an average of 26.91 with a best of 4-28 against Camberwell Magpies.

Coburg coach Pranish Singh saw Dundon come through Greenvale’s academy and reached out amid the unrest at the Kangaroos.

“Last season his development under Damian Shanahan was very impressive and he ended up being a solid player in first grade,” Singh said.

“From Coburg’s point of view it’s very exciting, he’ll come in and play a role.

“The biggest factor for Will was he can come over to a club where he can continue his development and we’re going to put a lot of time and effort into helping him.

“He’s pretty ambitious to go back into Premier Cricket.

“It will challenge him a little bit and he’ll get to bowl to some of the best bats in sub-district cricket.

“We’re excited to have someone steam in and do a bit of damage at the top of the order.”

Dundon, originally from Tallarook, is expected to take the new ball alongside captain Aaron Shellie.

The arrival of Carruthers will also boost a Coburg attack that ranked 11th for wickets taken this season.

In 10 Third XI matches for the Tigers, Carruthers snared 10 wickets at 32.50 with a best of 3-10.

He has previously played lower grade Premier Cricket at Greenvale Kangaroos and Carlton as well as at Subbies rival Plenty Valley.

“It’s fair to say that bowling was one of the areas that we identified to bring in some experience and a bit of talent from outside,” Singh said.

“We’ve got some talented young quick at the club but for their development it’s probably better that they have a few games in the Second XI to learn to bowl senior cricket line and length.

“They’ll be good support for Aaron Shellie and Aaron Ayre can obviously bowl a bit of spin and we’re looking to get more overs out of Fletcher Stewart this season.”

Joining Dundon, Margariti is the latest player to leave Greenvale.

He played six Third XI matches this season, scoring 268 runs at 44.67, and the Lions hope he can add some much-needed secondary scoring behind leaders Shellie and Aaron Ayre.

Meanwhile, Charles Bolmat has signed on as he returns to senior cricket after having this season off to concentrate on football.

The young all-rounder made the Vic Country under-17 in 2021-22 and also represented a Cricket Victoria XI before going on to Premier Cricket with Essendon.

Across 15 matches for the Bombers’ Third and Fourth XI and Dowling Shield he scored 183 runs at 22.88 and took 16 wickets at 16.94.

Bolmat played three games for Calder Cannons in 2022 and took the summer off but did play seven matches for VTCA club Aberfeldie’s under-18s, scoring 219 runs.
