There were some almighty performances across the Gisborne District Cricket Association on Saturday.

We’ve ranked the best of the best from across the McIntyre Cup, Johnstone Shield and Jensen Shield.

From a blistering century to destructive bowling performances and a number of match-winning all-round performances.

Check out the weekend’s best players below.

1. MANDEEP SINGH AUJLA (Harkness)

The Harkness gun smashed an incredible 130 not out to help deliver a massive 206-run win over Gisborne in the Jensen Shield. The knock was the biggest score of the weekend and came from eight boundaries and an astonishing 15 sixes. Aujla’s massive ton helped his club post 9-385 from just 40 overs.

2. OLLIE BRYANT (Eastern Hill)

Eastern Hill continues to perform strongly in its first season of GDCA cricket and Bryant was at the forefront of Saturday’s 89-run win over Kilmore in the Johnstone Shield. The Hills’ middle order bat was the only centurion in the competition, pounding an unbeaten 102 off just 81 balls. He hit 11 boundaries and a pair of sixes.

3. LEIGH BRENNAN (Gisborne)

The Dragons paceman bagged 5-23, the best bowling figures from the top three tiers of the GDCA this weekend. Brennan’s five-for came from nine overs but it wasn’t enough to stop a 12-run loss to McIntyre Cup rival Rupertswood.

4. CAMPBELL FOWLER (Wallan)

Weirdly, both five-wicket hauls came in losses this weekend. Fowler snared an impressive 5-34 from eight overs as the Magpies went down to East Sunbury in the Johnstone Shield.

5. HARRY SANDHU (Harkness)

While Mandeep Singh Aujla stole the show, Sandhu was also impressive, smashing 93 runs. He also took 1-10 from seven overs as Harkness demolished Gisborne by 206 runs. Sandhu’s knock delivered three fours and a crazy 11 sixes.

6. DAMIEN EDWARDS (Sunbury United)

The Bees captain peeled off an unbeaten 57 from 102 balls to help secure a nine-wicket win over cross-town rival Sunbury Kangaroos in the McIntyre Cup. Edwards hit six boundaries. He also took 2-18 off nine wickets with the ball and took a catch.

7. COREY DAY (Romsey)

Day was at the heart of Romsey’s 37-run win over Macedon. First, he scored 68 not out from 58 balls – hitting 10 boundaries – to help the Redbacks post 6-247. He then claimed 1-18 from three overs to see the Cats dismissed for 210.

8. LACHIE WILKINS (East Sunbury)

The Thunder all-rounder did it all in the three-wicket win over Wallan in Johnstone Shield. He snared 1-22 off eight overs with the ball and took a catch. Then chasing 187 for victory, Wilkins hit 60 not off 51 balls – including eight boundaries and a six – to guide his team home with three balls to spare.

9. BEN BRYANT (Eastern Hill)

One of the more stunning bowling performances of the weekend. Bryant claimed 4-4 off eight overs as Eastern Hill eased to a 89-run win over Kilmore. Six of his eight overs were maidens. He also added 16 runs in an all-rounder performance.

10. HARRY PENDER (Macedon)

A match-high 79 runs off 78 balls wasn’t enough to secure Macedon a win but it was the highest score in McIntyre Cup this weekend. Pender hit seven boundaries and a trio of sixes to give his club a chance to taking down grand finalist Romsey but it fell 37 runs short. The wicketkeeper also took one catch.

11. MANINDER SINGH (Aintree)

Aintree’s match-winning hero in a two-wicket victory over Diggers Rest Bulla. Singh took 3-29 off six overs to restrict Diggers to 9-134 from its 40 overs. With his team in strife at 7-98, Singh came in and hit 22 not out off 36 balls, including three fours, to seal victory with six balls to spare.

12. MARCUS STEWART (Woodend)

The skipper was at his destructive best in the eight-wicket McIntyre Cup win over Broadford. Stewart smashed an unbeaten 72 from 71 balls, hitting 12 boundaries. He also added a catch as Woodend chased down Broadford’s 135 in 30 overs.

13. CHRIS BURKETT (Romsey)

The Redbacks’ top-scorer in the 37-run win over Macedon. Burkett hit 74 off just 48 balls, smashing 10 boundaries and four sixes. Romsey posted 6-247 and Burkett then took three catches to cap a big day.

14. VINAY KUMAR SHARMA (Aintree)

Had a big day in his club’s thrilling two-wicket win over Diggers Rest Bulla in Johnstone Shield. The wicketkeeper took an impressive five catches, the most across the top three tiers of the GDCA. He then opened the batting and scored an important 39 from 40 balls, hitting six fours, to help lay a platform for victory.

15. BRYAN VANCE (Wallan)

The Magpies ace is rarely out of the runs and he delivered another strong performance on Saturday. Unfortunately, his 86 not out from 97 balls – the highest score of the match – still wasn’t enough to stop a three-wicket loss to East Sunbury. Vance his 11 boundaries in his knock and took a catch as well.
