Needing a win over rivals East Box Hill at Springfield Park if it was to have any chance of taking part at the pointy end of summer, fifth-placed Kerrimuir United started poorly on Saturday — rolled for just 102 in 49.1 overs.â
But, with its season hanging by a thread, Kerrimuir proceeded to smash its way through the visitor’s batting line-up and, when the dust had settled, East Box Hill was back in the sheds for just 22 in the space of 20.3 overs.
Kerrimuir skipper Conor Spinks took 5-12 off 10 overs, with four maidens, while Asela Idamegedara nabbed 5-9 off 10.3, five of them maidens.

GULLY SHATTERED AFTER DREAM WASHED OUT
Not one East Box Hill bat reached double-figures.
“It was a strange sort of day, they just kept nicking them,” Spinks said. “We just bowled really good lines and the ball was swinging around a bit.
“After two or three wickets fell the momentum started swinging our way.
“It’s definitely the lowest score I’ve ever played in.”
In the break between the two innings, Spinks said he’d stressed the importance of a fightback.
“I said we needed a win if we were going to make finals and it was great, the boys really responded,” he said. “If we get an outright and results go our way, we could snag a home final.”
Following on, East Box Hill reached 1-3 in nine overs before stumps with the match set to conclude on Saturday.
