Big V Basketball: Brandon Armstrong, Anthony Hill go big

A Gippsland United import with more than a million social media followers stunned his opponents in two big displays. See who joined him as one of the top 10 Big V players of the week.

The big name imports have continued to shine in the Big V Basketball competition with some standout displays.

Here are our top 10 performers from round 6.

Ida Andersson, Sunbury, Championship Women

Andersson is fast becoming one of the top players in the Big V women’s competition. Despite her side’s big loss to Bulleen on Sunday, she finished with 26 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Brandon Armstrong, Gippsland United, Division 2 Men

The American import was in fine form as United made it two wins from two during its double header weekend. He finished with 35 points, five rebounds and a resounding seven steals on Saturday against Melton. He then backed it up with 24 points against Wallan.

Alysha Carden-David, Altona, Division 2 Women

Altona came away with a comfortable win against Wallan, prevailing 80-51, with Carden-Davey producing a dominant display in the result. She finished with 31 points and nine rebounds on Saturday night.

Chris Elder, Hume, Championship Men

The Broncos may not have come out on top in a 96-95 thriller against McKinnon if it wasn’t for the impact of their star man. Elder had 36 points, six rebounds and five steals in a dominant display at both ends of the floor.

Keenan Gorski, Wyndham, Championship Men

Gorski’s impact off the bench couldn’t have been much better than what he produced at the weekend. He finished with 37 points, nine assists, two assists and one steal in just 24 minutes.

Harmony Harder, Hume, Championship Women

In her side’s 78-49 win over Southern Peninsula, Harder finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.

Ariel Hearn, Sherbrooke, Division 1 Women

Hearn did just about everything as Sherbrooke maintained its unbeaten start to the season. She finished with 38 points on 12-21 shooting, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Anthony Hill, Mildura, Division 2 Men

Hill has been in tremendous form in recent weeks and it continued in his side’s 14-point win over Craigieburn. He finished with 40 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. He also showed a strong presence at the defensive end with two steals.

Naoum Lazis, Keysborough, Division 1 Men

A double header weekend for the Cougars meant two chances for Lazis to thrive. It all started with a 32 point, 11 rebound double-double off the bench against Collingwood. He then backed it up with 24 points and 10 rebounds after being reinserted into the starting line-up against Warrandyte.

Carly Remmos, Corio Bay, Division 2 Women

Remmos was a factor at both ends of the floor as the Stingrays ran out big 107-45 winners over Collingwood. She had 26 points, 10 rebounds and four steals off the bench.
