AVONDALE  Heights won its sixth game in succession, defeating Strathmore by 14 points in Essendon District Football League Premier Division on Saturday.

The Heights trailed by four points at quarter-time, but kicked four goals to two in the second term to gain a 10-point lead.

The arm-wrestle continued until the end of the match, but inaccuracy cost the Mores from catching the Heights in the last term, going down 14.9 (93) to 11.13 (79).

Adam Winter kicked five goals for Strathmore, while Dean Galea booted four for Avondale Heights. Patrick Rose also kicked three for the Heights to take his competition-leading tally to 28.

The undefeated start to the season gives the Heights a one-game buffer on Aberfeldie and Keilor, after Abers gave the Blues their first loss of the season.

The Blues led by six points at the main break, but managed just 2.12 in the second half, as Abers won, 17.17 (119) to 9.16 (70).

Darcy Daniher (four) and Courtney Johns (three) kicked seven goals between them, while Lance Oswald also chipped in with three for the Abers.

The win sees them jump the Blues on percentage.

Essendon Doutta Stars failed to win its first game of the season, suffering a three-point loss to Greenvale at home.

The Jets led at every change, up by 16 points at quarter-time, 21 at half-time and 15 at three-quarter-time.

But inaccuracy gave the Stars a sniff, with the Jets kicking 1.7 to 4.1 in the last quarter despite holding on to win, 13.13 (90) to 13.9 (87).

Chris Burns was named best for the Jets, in just their second win from six rounds.

Pascoe Vale beat Maribyrnong Park by six points at home on Saturday.

The Lions led by five goals at three-quarter-time, but the Panthers kicked six unanswered goals in the last term to win, 14.8 (92) to 13.8 (86). Former Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs player Patrick Vezpremi kicked five majors in an eye-catching display, while Jake Polizzi also dobbed three goals for the Panthers to take his season tally to 19.

And Airport West recorded a comfortable win over the winless Northern Saints on Saturday.

The Eagles kicked eight goals to one in the first term, and never let the Saints into the game to win, 25.10 (160) to 16.15 (111). Marcus Kenny led the way for the Eagles with eight goals.
