Legends of Australian golf will descend on the Northern Golf Club next week.

The likes of Peter Senior, Andre Stolz, Peter Fowler, Michael Harwood and Terry Price will feature in the Legends Pro-Am on Tuesday, March 8.

The tournament is free to all spectators with fans able to walk the fairways of the Glenroy course with their favourite players.

The field will see 60 of Australia’s best pros and 228 players in total vie for $60,000 in prizes.

One of Australia’s best loved golfers, Senior is a two-time Australian Open, two-time Australian Masters and three-time Australian PGA winner and finished fourth at the British Open in 1994.

Harwood finished runner-up at the Open in 1991, claimed five wins on the European Tour and represented Australia at the World Cup twice.

Fowler won the World Cup alongside Wayne Grady in 1989 and claimed the individual trophy as well.

Price has also represented Australia at the World Cup, while Stolz has a PGA Tour victory to his name, winning the Michelin Championship in Las Vegas in 2004, and claimed the Order of Merit on the OneAsia Tour in 2011.

Northern Golf Club professional Bryan Milligan said it promised to be one of the best days of golf this year.

“Some of the biggest names in Australian legends golf that have certainly been assembled here at Northern,” he said.

“The top 10 names are household names, they’ve all played overseas, currently playing on the European Legends Tour, the US Champions Tour and Order of Merit winners.

“We’ve got an open fairway policy, so fans can actually walk the course with the pros and it’s open to the general public, no charge.

“This is the second time hosting a Legends Tour event, we held it last year but COVID kept it pretty quiet.

“We’re pretty proud that we’ve got some of the best names in Australian golf coming to play.”

Milligan was looking forward to the likes of Senior, Fowler and Harwood and a handful of internationals showcase the best in senior golf and was expecting them to draw a good following.

“I was speaking to Peter yesterday, he’s still shooting well and Michael Harwood at a different Pro-Am down at Portarlington shot 8-under,” he said.

“These guys still hit a damn good golf ball.

“We’ve got a number of internationals, Michael Long from New Zealand, some from the USA, Ben Jackson and Mark Sheppard from England.

“This is part of the Australasian Tour, it is an Order of Merit tournament as well, so points are awarded.”

Following viral footage of a party hole at the Phoenix Open earlier this year, the tournament will feature its own.

Videos of fans wildly celebrating went worldwide and while they’re not expecting 16,000 people to pack the stands, there is a big prize on offer if any golfer can sink a hole-in-one.

“On the sixth hole, we’ve got a party hole, there’s food and drinks, music, and the public can get out there an enjoy the golf,” Milligan said.

“And we’re giving away a $35,000 car if a hole-in-one is hit, that will be huge if that goes off.”
