PEAKE’S STRONG START
Geelong Grammar came away with a 69-run win over Brighton Grammar as Charlie Peake, the son of former Victorian cricketer Clinton and younger brother of Ollie, put together an impressive performance.
Peake starred with the bat scoring 79 runs off 121 balls at the top of the order to guide Grammar to 206 all out in their innings.
In response, Brighton was all out for 137 as Peake led the way with the ball taking 4-29 off his 10 overs.
Vice-captain Angus Baines and Max Clark were also influential with four wickets between them.
Clark was clean in the field as well with two catches.
The Grammar side had several debutants including Felix Waters, Kyan Walters, Jack Pickett and Xavier Cummins.
SCOTCH WIN A THRILLER
Theodore Skate held his nerve to strike the match-winning runs in Scotch College’s nail-biting last over win over Caulfield Grammar.
Skate found the deciding boundary with just three balls to spare in the two-wicket win after Scotch chased down Caulfield’s total of 8-205.
Skate (14 not out) and Oliver Lacey (26 not out) steered Scotch home after an earlier knock of 55 from 77 balls for Sash Yuvaraj.
In the first innings, opening bowler Fred Sainsbury was pivotal for Scotch as he claimed two early wickets and finished with a haul of 5-29 from 10 overs, while young Sandeep Ahuja – fresh off his Vic Metro under-17 selection – struck a measured 97-ball for 64 for Caulfield.
GEELONG COLLEGE FLEX MUSCLE
Geelong College powered its way to a 95-run win over Carey Grammar as Harry Emerson started his season in dominant fashion.
Emerson crunched a century of 108 off 102 including eight boundaries and four 6s as his side posted 7-260 from its 50 overs.
Hamish Craig and Henry Knox both scored 40 to add valuable contributions.

Max Williams was the other multiple wicket taker.
XAVIER ON THE BOARD

Leo Steenholdt, who is part of the Victorian under-17 emerging players squad, was the pick of Haileybury’s bowlers in the first innings and took 4-22 from his 10 overs.
In the second innings, the spells of opening bowler Flynn Stewart (3-20 off 7.1 overs) and off-spinner Roland Murphy (3-26 off 9) were crucial as Xavier skittled Haileybury for 133 in 35.1 overs.
