All the Victorian Turf Cricket Association winners announced

St Albans had three players in the top four of the VTCA’s Senior Division Paxino Medal despite not making finals. SEE ALL THE WINNERS.

Geeth Alwis says his performances in the last three seasons have led to his crowning moment.

On Friday night, the St Albans star was awarded the VTCA Senior Division’s Ray Paxino Medal, just a year after he fell three votes short of the same award behind Druids’ Michael Hay.

Remarkably, Alwis was joined on the podium by two St Albans teammates after he took out the award with 24 votes.

Teammate and good friend Simon Lambert was equal second with Yarraville Club star Trent Lawford on 22 votes.

Arosh Janoda, also of St Albans, was one vote further back.

The all-rounder finished his eighth season at the club with 385 runs at an average of 35 while taking 21 wickets at 17.3

His highest score was an unbeaten 99 against Westmeadows while he had season best figures of 4-23.

“The trophy says my name but it is about the other guys on the team because I wouldn’t have been able to achieve it without them,” he said.

“Unfortunately a century was the only thing missing but I thought I was pretty consistent with the bat and ball throughout the season.

“It’s special for our club to have three guys do so well but now our goal is for the team to play finals.

“The last three years have been good for me personally but now I hope I can help the team to keep building.”

St Albans president Jeff Montebello described Alwis as a “great clubman”.

“He hasn’t been impressive on the field but also off it,” he said.

“Geeth knows good players who he has been able to bring to the club.

“He is well respected not just by our club but others who we play against.

“I’ve seen just how much hard work he has put in and I’m pleased to see him rewarded for it.”

St Albans led the way with three players selected in the Senior Division Team of the Year.

Premiers Haig Fawkner were represented by Jaspreet Bhatti and Khalid Hassan.

Runner-up Aberfeldie also had two selections — Jordan Kight and Craig Sheedy.

In Division 1, Sunshine gun Kaushal Lokuarachchi took home the Issacs Howarth Medal after a stunning first season for the club.

He scored 691 runs in 12 innings at an average of 69.1 while he finished with 27 wickets at 13.6.
