VTCA club Seabrook will host a T20 clash against some of the best blind cricketers in Australia on Sunday.

The Victorian Blind Cricket Association boasts a number of players that have earned a baggy green and are preparing for a potential series against reigning national champions NSW.

The Victorian squad would usually be preparing for the annual National Cricket Inclusion Carnival but it has been postponed until next season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vics boast a number of players with international experience, including Brendan Spencer, Ned Brewer-Maiga, Steve Obeid, John Boland, Dan Pritchard, David Gauci and Zac Sheehan.

The clash will be held at Seabrook’s Comben Reserve in Altona Meadows with the first ball scheduled for 12pm.

The game will be played under the rules of blind cricket with Seabrook’s players to wear vision simulation goggles.

Blind cricket is played with a plastic ball with ball bearings that can be heard as it is rolled down the pitch.

Bowlers bowl underarm and batsmen will usually use a sweep rather than traditional shots.

Players can use runners and fully blind players score double runs.

VTCA president Steve McNamara said it was a great opportunity for all involved.

“They’ve got a fair squad that they’re bringing up and hopefully the Seabrook boys can give them a run for their money,” he said.

Anyone interested in playing blind cricket can contact the VBCA at secretary@vbca.org.au or on Facebook.
