Morning commuters in Melbourne’s southeast and north are facing major delays after a truck damaged overhead wires and a multi-vehicle crash.
Racecourse Rd in Kensington has been closed in both directions for vehicles and trams under the Newmarket rail bridge, between Bellair St and Pin Oak Crescent after an over-height truck drove through overhead wires and damaged them.
Traffic is building up rapidly on Racecourse Rd in both directions, resulting in delays of more than 20 minutes.
Authorities are urging drivers to consider using Mt Alexander Rd and Ascot Vale Rd or Boundary Rd, Macaulay Rd and Epsom Rd instead of Racecourse Rd.

Route 57 trams are diverting using Mt Alexander Rd between Stop 20 Melrose St and Stop 37 Union Rd.
Public transport passengers are urged to consider using trains on the Craigieburn Line or local buses on routes 404 or 472 to connect with tram services at the Moonee Ponds Junction.
A Department of Transport spokesman said the closure was under Victoria Police control and the road would re-open when repairs are complete and “it’s safe to do so”.
In the southeast, a woman has been rushed to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on a major freeway, with morning commuters facing significant traffic delays.
All outbound lanes have been reopened on the Monash Freeway near Burke Rd, Glen Iris after a multi-vehicle crash involving a truck, several cars and a motorcyclist on Monday about 7.15am.
A woman in her 30s was rushed to The Alfred in a stable condition with lower body injuries.
Citybound drivers are facing more than 30 minute of delays while motorists travelling outbound face more than 90 minutes of delays pushing back to the West Gate Freeway.
Surrounding roads including Toorak Rd, Glenferrie Rd, Malvern Rd, Burke Rd and Tooronga Rd are also busier than usual.
Three outbound lanes remain closed on the Monash Freeway near Burke Road, as crews work to remove all vehicles from the roadway. There are significant delays in both directions, with more than 50 minute delays inbound from EastLink. #victraffic

A Department of Transport spokesman thanked motorists for their patience as emergency service conducted investigations and removed all vehicles from the freeway.
“Our signals team is monitoring conditions in the area and will adjust traffic lights to minimise congestion on surrounding roads.”
