A mother-of-two lost her unborn baby in a horror crash when a Narre Warren man ran a red light and smashed into her car in Noble Park.

France Marchand, 72, pleaded guilty at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Friday to careless driving and entering an intersection against a red traffic light.

The court heard Marchand was driving on Corrigan Rd with his wife and sister-in-law when he went through a red light on May 9, 2020.

This caused him to crash into another car that was travelling through a green light at the intersection.

Marchand remained uninjured but his wife and sister-in-law were taken to hospital.

The driver of the other car and her two passenger kids were also taken to hospital.

The woman, who was 17-weeks pregnant at the time, tragically lost her baby as result of the crash.

The court heard there was no evidence of Marchand braking prior to the crash and his traffic light was red for around 20 seconds.

Lawyer Adrienna Kisvarda said the retiree experienced a “slight medical episode” and has since been diagnosed with vertigo.

“At the time he instructs he became dizzy and blacked out momentarily,” she said.

“As he didn’t seek medical treatment until two months later it can’t be said this was the cause of the accident from a medical professional.”

Magistrate Jason Ong said there were “serious consequences” as a result of the crash.

Marchand was convicted and fined $750.
