A woman grabbed, punched and spat at paramedics, nurses, police officers and a doctor in a five-hour reign of violence, a court has heard.

Emily Huntingford attacked emergency workers as she was being transported to and while she was at Casey Hospital.

The 35-year-old appeared by video link at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to several unlawful assaults and criminal damage charges.

Luckily, none of the frontline victims received any injuries in the series of unprovoked attacks.

The court heard on June 29 this year police and ambulance paramedics attended Huntingford’s Dandenong home.

When she was asked to get in the ambulance she spat at a paramedic, narrowly missing her, and punched a police officer on her left leg.

She was transported to Casey Hospital where she grabbed a nurse with both hands and snarled at her.

Huntingford then hit a doctor in the back with an open hand and grabbed her wrists, and when other medical staff came to intervene she kicked a nurse in the chest.

She was then sedated, and later arrested and remanded in police custody.

The day before she had gone on a rampage at her house, throwing a chair at a wall and smashing a window.

Her defence lawyer said the offending needed to be put in the context of Huntingford having serious mental health issues and intellectual disabilities.

She said her client had now moved to a different care home in Dandenong where they could provide more specialised support for her complex needs.

Magistrate Suzette Dootjes said the emergency workers were just doing their jobs and trying to help her when Huntingford lashed out.

She said she had a history of assaults on medical workers and had been banned from going to some hospitals because of her outbursts.

“To be treated this way makes a difficult job for police and medical workers even more difficult,” Ms Dootjes said.

But while it was serious and sustained offending over a short period of time, she also accepted Huntingford had particular personal circumstances.

She was sentenced to 14 days in jail, time she has already served on remand.
