THEY’RE the volunteers whose hearts are bursting with the spirit of Christmas.
About 130 volunteers from the charity Frankston Life Community (formerly City Life) will provide a free Christmas Day lunch with gifts and entertainment at Frankston Arts Centre.
Owen Paden, who will act as MC, said the joy on the faces of those attending made his day. “There are people who are going to be getting a meal who otherwise would not — or would be sitting home alone if they have one,” he said.

Fellow volunteer and gift co-ordinator, Wendy Shotter, said she loved giving back to the community.
“We are giving a gift to every person who comes. We’re planning to hand out 400 gifts,” she said.
“The gifts are new — there’s nothing second-hand.”
Another volunteer, Ron Crosling, said he enjoyed giving without expecting anything in return.
“It brings the true meaning of Christmas to me. It’s what Christmas is about.”
The volunteers are responsible for all aspects of the event including cooking, entertainment, serving, dish washing and gift wrapping.
Event founder Mark Whitby said the Christmas Day lunch helped make to make the day special again for the needy and isolated.
