Two people on the run after causing major collision in Cranbourne, lane closures

A major smash in Cranbourne has closed lanes of traffic, with the accused driver on the run.

Two people are on the run after causing a major collision in Cranbourne East on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to a two-car collision in Cranbourne East about 5am.

Investigators understand a red Holden Commodore was travelling west on Berwick-Cranbourne Rd when it collided with a silver Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Berwick-Cranbourne Rd and Fiorelli Boulevard.

The impact pushed the Toyota off the road and into a drainage ditch.

The two people inside the Holden left the scene prior to police attending.

A woman believed to be in her 40s was treated for a chest injury and taken to the Alfred in a serious but stable condition.

A woman believed to be in her 20s was also assessed however did not require emergency treatment or transport.

The collision closed the westbound lanes and motorists have been encouraged to consider alternative routes like the South Gippsland Hwy or Thompsons Rd.

The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
