Tina Koutsogiannakis fined $750 plus $3000 costs after Oakleigh East dog attack

The owner of an American staffordshire bull terrier cross which escaped its backyard, ran across eight lanes of traffic and attacked a man and his dog has faced court.
Tina Koutsogiannakis pleaded guilty in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on July 3 to five charges in relation to her dogs and the February 23 attack.
The court heard Koutsogiannakis’ dog Poombi broke free from her Oakleigh East property following her friend’s dog, before running across eight lanes of traffic on Dandenong Rd to attack an the victim and his dog, with Poombi “repeatedly” biting the victim’s ankles.
The court heard the victim was taken to Monash Medical Centre in Clayton by ambulance, where he had to stay overnight.
Due to his injuries, the victim had to undergo surgery to his ankle at Dandenong Hospital on February 25.
On Wednesday, the court heard Poombi and the second dog were seized by Monash council officers and had since been impounded at the RSPCA facility at Burwood.
Koutsogiannakis pleaded guilty to failing to register Poombi and a second dog in her ownership with the council, despite both dogs being more than three months old.
Magistrate Jan Maclean fined Koutsogiannakis $700 with conviction and $3000 in costs over the incident.
Koutsogiannakis will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 July for further charges involving Poombi.
Poombi and Koutsogiannakis’ second dog will remain in custody of the RSCPA until then.
