Police have made a breakthrough following a terrifying carjacking and kidnapping of an 80-year-old woman in St Kilda.
The incident occurred on July 6 at 1.40pm when the woman allegedly threatened the 80-year-old victim with what is believed to have been a large carving fork, holding it to her neck as well as pulling her hair and demanding money.
According to police, the woman demanded the elderly victim drive her to the airport, but she instead took her to Carlisle St in St Kilda where she left the vehicle.
She was wearing a white coloured long sleeve shirt, light coloured pants, a black jacket wrapped around her shoulders, multi-coloured backpack and black shoes.
Officers arrested a 38-year-old woman from St Kilda East on Friday afternoon after releasing CCTV footage connected to the violent attack earlier in the week.
The woman faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning where she was charged with eight offences, including attempted armed robbery, recklessly causing injury and assault with a weapon.
She was remanded in custody to reappear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 24.
