A Carrum Downs meth dealer high on his own supply was busted with drugs, cash and a weapon after he flipped his rental car in Springvale.
Shamit Naidu was on ice, ecstasy and a community corrections order when he slammed his rented Kia Sportage into a Mercedes Benz parked on Springvale Rd just after 6pm on October 12 last year.
The impact caused him to lose control and flip his vehicle — which he had been renting for more than a month — on its passenger side.
After a brief chat police formed the opinion Naidu was “under the influence of a substance”.
Naidu tested negative to alcohol but a blood test taken after he was transferred to The Alfred hospital revealed he had meth and ecstasy in his system.
Police later discovered 104.5 grams (73 grams pure) of meth and some cocaine, diazepam and other drugs in his car.
Police also found scales, a flick knife, almost $800 cash, some counterfeit currency and various identification and bank cards in the name of another person.
The Aladdin’s Cave haul was added to after police searched Naidu’s home and found four Apple Fitbits, four Jaybird wireless headphones, one Samsung watch, and a notebook containing details of drug transactions.
Naidu was released from hospital the next day and taken straight to Dandenong police station.
Naidu, 24, was sentenced in the County Court on September 13 after pleading guilty to several charges including drug trafficking.
Naidu’s prior criminal history, which includes various drugs and weapons charges, was revealed in court.
In February 2016, Naidu was convicted and sentenced in the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court to two months jail for trafficking meth.
He was placed on a community corrections order for other charges at the same hearing but the order was varied in January, 2017 after was again busted for dealing meth.
He was sentenced to 240 days in prison — time already served.
In June 2018 Naidu was convicted in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court of multiple drug possession charges, committing indictable offences whilst on bail and hindering an emergency worker on duty.
He was imprisoned for 147 days — time already served.
Naidu’s community corrections order was varied but he breached it again with his latest offences.
Judge Lisa Hannan said Naidu played “an active role in an activity which causes substantial harm in our community”.
“Your history demonstrates that you were not some naive participant,” she said.
“In effect, you took a chance and you got caught.”
However, Judge Hannan said Naidu’s prospects of rehabilitation were “probably still positive” due to his youth, completion of certificates in custody and his willingness to finish uni and get a job once released.

”The reality is that you are still a young man, and the community must actively pursue your rehabilitation,” she said.
Naidu was sentenced to a maximum 26 months in prison with a non-parole period of 16 months.
He had spent 336 days in custody at the time of sentencing.
