Clyde’s bid for its first WGCA Premier flag has received a boost with the Cougars signing hard-hitting batsman Daniel Polson.
The powerful left-hander will slot into the top order and could see the Cougars take another couple of steps further after they made the semi-finals last season.
“He’ll add that bit of depth and experience to boost the batting order,’’ Clyde president Paul Duyvestyn said.
Polson has been an impressive player in the MPCA, most notably at Carrum where he scored more than 1600 runs (at 53) in 39 games and coached the club.
He also played at Cranbourne in the DDCA, scoring a century in the Eagles’ Turf 2 grand final victory in 2013-14.
Polson has a reputation of scoring quickly and changing games with his power hitting.
He’s also a handy bowler.
Clyde has had a change of coach, with Matty Aslett replacing Kiefer Peries, who will remain as a player.
Aslett has previously coached Parkfield in the DDCA.
Daniel Lever will skipper the Cougars.
“Our bowling stocks are fairly strong,’’ Duyvestyn said.
“We’ve got the talent there, we just need to get them all to gel which started happening last season.’’
In other WGCA news, Cardinia has strengthened its list by adding five players from MPCA powerhouse Langwarrin, including Kangaroos premiership coach Jake Prosser and opening bowler Leigh Paterson.
Bulls favourite, hard-hitting left-hander Ricky Campbell, is also back at Gunton Oval.
Tooradin has signed Cardinia batsman-keeper Ben Parrott and Springvale South paceman Kallan Braid-Ball.
But the Seagulls have lost Troy Lehman, who has left to coach Drouin, where he resides. Matthew Cox, who scored 374 runs last season, is staying.
Koo Wee Rup has lost its prolific run scoring skipper Mark Cooper, who has joined Carrum, but the Demons have picked up Mt Eliza opening bowler Robbie Maskiell and the returning batsman Lachie Ramage.
