St Brigids St Louis Cricket Club is weighing up a move to Cricket Southern Bayside.
Saints members will vote at next Friday’s AGM on whether to stay in the Dandenong District Cricket Association or, like Mordialloc, cross to CSB.
The club’s juniors are already attached to the South East Cricket Association, which is now aligned with Cricket Southern Bayside.
President Noel Fitzgibbon said a transfer of competitions would make it easier for St Brigids St Louis under-age players to progress to senior cricket.
The City of Kingston club had 13 junior sides last season.
“It would allow them to play locally instead of running out to places like Berwick and Narre South,’’ Fitzgibbon said.
“Parents are coming to me saying, ‘Why are they getting back at 7.30 on a Saturday night?’ It’s just too far for them.
“But that’s one side of it. We’re looking at all options. It’s up to the members to decide. Until they vote on it, we won’t know. Let’s just wait and see.’’
St Brigids St Louis joined the Dandenong association 20 years ago. It was previously in the VTCA and the old Federal association.
Fitzgibbon said the club regarded the DDCA as a “a very good, strong competition’’.
The Saints provided one of the highlights of the 2018-19 season when, as a Turf 2 club, they upstaged Turf 1 teams to win the Twenty20 championship.
If they do vote on a transfer to Cricket Southern Bayside, they would probably be graded in Division 1.
Fitzgibbon said juniors would be a focus of the club wherever it played.
“We’re strong and success is in the numbers, with all the new kids coming in,’’ he said.
“We’ve got a good culture and people want to come to the club. We give all our juniors a fair and even opportunity to bat and bowl and have a game of cricket.’’
