Matt Prosser felt like his game “just clicked’’ this season.

The Langwarrin coach scored 646 runs, at 49.69, to top the MPCA Provincial division run list in 2021-22.

Throw in 23 wickets, at 17.52 apiece, with his leggies and it was another top-shelf season by the 27-year-old.

His exceptional season was rewarded on Wednesday night when he won the Wally Wedgwood Medal — as the leading player in MPCA Provincial — for the second straight season.

Prosser polled three votes in the final round (he made 78 against Sorrento) to win by three over Baden Powell’s Rhys Elmi.

He’s the fifth player to win back-to-back Wedgwoods — the others being Mark Brittain (in the mid 1980s), Peter Buchanan (early 90s), Scott Phillips and Ben Clements.

Prosser’s aggregate this season included five half-centuries. And he finished strongly, racking up 371 runs in his last six innings.

He rated this season marginally better than last, saying his game had improved.

“It felt like it had this year, especially with the bat,’’ he said.

“I’ve just been in control of my game.

“I know what I’ve got to do, I know where I can score, I just know my game really well.’’

Prosser said the medal, while nice, didn’t “ease the pain’’ of Langwarrin defeat by Old Peninsula in a semi-final last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pines star Damien Lawrence was a runaway winner of the John Hille Medal (in Peninsula).

He polled in nine games to win by nine votes after scoring 569 runs, at 47.42, and taking 11 wickets to help the Piners into the grand final.

Hastings champion Luke Hewitt won his third successive EG Betts Medal (in District) when he shared the award with Carrum’s Mark Cooper, the pair polling 18 votes.

The Robert Thompson Medal, in Sub District, was won by Ballam Park master blaster Pradeep De Silva, who plundered four centuries in season 2021-22. He won by a vote from Seaford’s Ryan McQueen, who missed four games.
