THE joint is jumping at Pines after a dazzling 4-0 start to the season.
“It’s a real good vibe,’’ Pythons coach Paddy Swayn said after his side’s stirring 15-point win over Edithvale-Aspendale on Saturday.
“You only had to watch that last quarter to see how much it means to the boys.
I think we had 13 stoppages in the last quarter and 10 of those were in our forward fifty.’’
With Aaron Edwards making his presence felt, Pines surged 17 points ahead in the third quarter.
But the Pythons had to kick into the breeze in the last quarter and Edi-Asp would undoubtedly make a run.
They did, kicking the opening goal, but the Pythons refused to yield and when Chris Guganovic swooped on a crumb and booted a goal, Pines was headed for victory.
Guganovic was best-on-ground in the 12.16 (88) to 11.7 (73) win.
But it wasn’t all good news for Pines.
Captain Jimmy Messina suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and had to use crutches to get out to the huddles later in the day.
Pines hasn’t played finals in over a decade, and the last time the Pythons made a 4-0 start to a season was in 1996.
Meanwhile, Hawthorn premiership player Brent Guerra said it was a great relief after Chelsea beat Seaford by 37 points to give him his first win as a coach.
“It’s good to get the first win,’’ he said.
Chelsea set up victory with an explosive 5.6 to 0.1 opening quarter and was never challenged.
Todd Gardiner was outstanding, while Rory Gregg and teenager Matt Silva, in his first game for the season, got plenty of the ball.
Former St Kilda star Stephen Milne will make a cameo appearance with Chelsea this Saturday.
Langwarrin scored its first win of the season, beating Bonbeach by 39 points.
This week: Mornington v Pines, Chelsea v Bonbeach, Frankston YCW v Langwarrin, Seaford v Mt Eliza, Edi-Asp v Karingal.
