Noble Park offie Kalhan Sineth claims eight Noble Park wickets

The Parkers’ professional player helped reel in Bayswater after early fireworks from big-hitting Blair Allen.

Noble Park off-spinner Kalhan Sineth changed his name over winter.

What hasn’t changed is his ability to take a bulging bag of wickets.

Sineth, who was listed as Kalhath Ilippuli Arachige last season, opened the Sub-District season with a dazzling haul of 8-73 off 31.5 overs against Bayswater at the Pat Wright Senior Oval on Saturday.

It followed his 7-45 off 33.5 overs in the semi-final against Mt Waverley last season, his first with the Parkers as a professional player.

Sineth’s brisk offies helped Noble claw back ground and dismiss Baysy for 251 after they had made a rattling start.

Opener Blair Allen believes the best way to take the shine off the new ball is to belt the cover off it, and he slapped 47 off 45 deliveries, including 4 sixes and 3 fours.

His opening partner Travis Nightingale (54) and No 3 John Salter (61) were also in the runs, and Luke Raggett (27) and Luke Saultry (32no) contributed later in the day.

But Noble Park was pleased to hold the visitors to 251 given the rocketing scoring rate in the first 90 minutes.

With former captain Paul Hill returning to Coomoora in the DDCA, premiership player Dirk Vandergert returned as Noble Park’s wicketkeeper and gave a tidy display.

The Parkers had a first-gamer in left-arm opening bowler Nishantha Weerakkody, who had 1-36 off 16 overs and escaped punishment from the big-swinging Blair.

Nilo Perera (0-40 off seven) did not.

Sineth’s figures, although out of the top drawer, are some way short of the best for Noble Parkin Subbies cricket.

Anooka Samarakoddy and Ash Perera share the record with 8-26, Samarakoddy’s haul recorded in 2002-03 and Perera’s in 2015-16.
