MPCA: Main Ridge Cricket Club’s Barker clan celebrates a special day

Cricket is a family sport for the Barkers of Main Ridge, with five generations turning out for the club.

What a special day of cricket it was for Main Ridge stalwart Russell Barker when he played in the club’s thirds on Saturday.

Not only was it his 300th game for the club — his service to the club spanning back to the 1960s — but he also got to play alongside his son Alex and his grandson Jack, making it three Barker generations in the same team, a very rare occurrence.

And to cap off a memorable day, the Barker-fuelled Ridge beat Rosebud by six runs.

And speaking of major milestones, the captain of Main Ridge’s thirds was none other than Lloyd Hosking, in his 499th game for the club.

Hosking will play his 500th game on Saturday against Delacombe Park.

But back to the Barkers.

Young Jack is the fifth generation Barker to play at Main Ridge CC. His dad is Travis Barker, one of the Cougars’ finest players who has played over 270 games for the club.
