Long Island’s dynamic batting line-up just got even stronger with Ferntree Gully run-machine Zac Wilson signing on.
The 29-year-old joins his best mate, Island skipper Tom Boxell, who crossed to the club last season.
Wilson blasted 609 runs as captain-coach of Knoxfield last season, including a hand of 176 (with 17 fours and 6 sixes) against Lysterfield.
He also took 13 wickets bowling off-spin.
“I think he whacks them,’’ Long Island president James Haley said.
“He’s a good player so he will be perfect for us. That solidifies our batting and obviously helps with the bowling as well.
“With 14 one-dayers (this season), having a good spinner really helps.
“I think there’s potential for him to open the bowling in some one-dayers.’’
Wilson played six games for Richmond in Premier Cricket and also represented the Victorian Country side at the Australian titles in 2016.
His arrival will help Long Island’s bid to return to the MPCA top flight Provincial.
The Islanders made the Peninsula division finals last season.
Their batting line-up will be headed by former Victorian opener Nick Jewell and exciting youngster Aiden McKenna, with Boxell at No. 3, Wilson at four, Michael Burke at five and Sri Lankan Pubudu Edirisinghe at six.
Champ Andrew Tweddle will again spearhead the bowling attack.
Bart Hudgson is again coach of Long Island.
