Brilliant batting and disciplined bowling helped Old Peninsula claim its fourth MPCA Provincial premiership in 12 years on Saturday.

The Pirates beat Sorrento by 37 runs in the grand final at Peninsula Grammar.

Batting first, Old Peninsula posted 7-217, thanks mainly to Tom La Brooy, who belted 21 runs off the last over, including a six off the final ball, to finish unbeaten on 79.

In all he blasted five sixes.

It was a match-wining knock.

Earlier, Dylan O’Malley (44) and skipper Justin Grant (41) laid the platform.

In reply, Sorrento was dismissed for 180, with Pirates spinner Will Crowder snaring 5-26 off seven overs.

The Pirates’ side included five players who played in the club’s last Provincial flag in 2015-16 — John Forrest, Glen Prendergast, Dylan O’Malley, Wade Pelzer and Will Crowder.

Pines all-rounders Billy Humphrey (29) and Patty Jackson (28) made vital contributions with the bat.

Humphrey capped a memorable game when he took 4-30, including the final wicket, clean bowled, to clinch the flag.
