Cricket clearances have opened in the MPCA and already there are some significant player movements, including two premiership captains and a first-class star.
Former Victorian paceman Jayde Herrick’s switch from Somerville to Langwarrin is official, with his clearance application one of the first to be approved since clearances opened on August 1.
Hastings premiership skipper Rob Hearn has applied to join Tyabb, while Sam Mullavey, who guided Heatherhill to the 2018-19 MPCA District flag, has submitted a clearance to Provincial club Baxter.
New Baxter coach Adeel Hussain’s transfer from Tootgarook is also pending.
Taylor Smith, after a season with Pines, has applied to return to Langwarrin, where he is a premiership opening batsman.
Meanwhile, MPCA general manager Ian Benson said the structure of the 2020-21 season was yet to be determined.
He didn’t rule out more one-day games being played in a COVID affected season.
“It depends when we start really and how many days we’ve got in the season,’’ Benson said.
“You’ve also got to take into account if it’s stopped at any time, too.
“Do you go hard first with all one-dayers, try and get seven one-dayers in before Christmas…all options are on the table.’’
Benson said the MPCA annual general meeting would be held “before the end of September’’.
