Former Melbourne AFL player Mitch White played a starring role with bat and ball in the Seaford Tigers’ gripping two-wicket win over Carrum in the MPCA District season-opener on Saturday.

White, who is captain of the Casey Demons’ VFL side, captured 4-18 off 8 overs with his brisk right-armers off a short run to help restrict Carrum to 8-156 off 40 overs.

Dylan Steed (41), Shaun Foster (39) and Zach Dent (30) did best for the Lions.

In reply, Seaford Tigers opener Brayden Roscoe cracked 51 (with 9 fours) and the Tigers looked to be cruising to victory at 5-152 before losing 3-0 to crash to 8-152, still needing five runs.

White, batting at No. 8, held his nerve to guide the Tigers to victory in the last over (and in near darkness), making 4 not out.

Matthew Pola (24), Dave James (28) and Matt Roach (21) were also in the runs.

Hastings overcame some batting jitters to chase down Dromana’s meagre 87 with four wickets and 12 overs remaining.

Dromana lost, despite rushing to 0-50 in the first hour of the game.

Champion Hastings paceman Isi Dias sparked the turnaround, dismissing Dromana openers Kierran Voelkl (27) and Adam Ciavarella (17) to set off a batting collapse that saw the Hoppers lose 10-37.

Dias (3-17 off 8 overs, with three maidens), Hasith Perera (3-15) and Shavidu Amarasinghe (3-14) did the damage.

In reply, Hastings slumped to 3-14 before recruit Danushka Perera chimed in with a timely 30 (with 3 fours) to help the Blues to 6-88 in 28 overs, and victory.

New Dromana skipper Ben Brittain didn’t bowl because of a side strain, but new ball bowlers Zacc Klan (3-24) and Jye Voelkl (2-21) tried hard.

Some miserly bowling put Delacombe Park on the path to a comfortable six-wicket win over Mt Martha.

Parkers opening bowler Dean Blight (1-9 off 7 overs) tied down the Reds, who were restricted to 124, with Simon Street (51) and Brett Wilkinson (30) doing best. Nick Christides (3-36), Daniel Streker (3-29) and Ricky Ramsdale (2-10 off 6.5 overs) shared the wickets for Delacombe.

In reply, the Parkers zoomed to 4-125 in 30.5 overs, with Ramsdale (34no) and Streker (31) completing splendid games and Jonny Guthrie making 22 to go with his two catches, a stumping and a run out.

It was a tie between Crib Point and Rosebud, both sides locked on 125.

Jason Mathers (31no) and Patrick Nagel (32) looked to be steering Rosebud to victory before Cribby fought back late. Rosebud needed one to win off the last ball, but Cribby keeper Callan Campbell effected a run out.

Earlier, Sharks skipper Billy Quigley took 3-25. Waide Symes top scored for Crib Point with 32.

In Sub District, former Frankston Peninsula opener Nathan Harford scored a majestic, unbeaten 140 to set up a thumping win for Carrum Downs over Ballam Park.

Harford opened the innings and carried his bat, putting away 12 boundaries in a classy knock that lit up Steve Thompson Oval.

He shared a 92-run opening stand with Dave Dervan (37) before skipper Ryan Lynch (20) and coach Brad Lockhart (19no) chimed in.

Carrum Downs medium pacer Coby Podd then unleashed a superb spell of bowling, taking 6-11 off 4.1 overs to send Ballam Park crashing all out for 69. Dervan snared 3-23.

An unconquered fourth wicket partnership of 124 between Aaron Edwards (62no) and recruit Anthony Craddock (62no) set up Tyabb’s resounding win over Tootgarook.

Edwards and Craddock hit the ball crisply as the Yabbies posted 3-174 before dismissing the Frogs for 120.

Seaford (7-178) scored a convincing win over Rye (147). Scott Manders (42), Mathew Herbert (40) and Ryan McQueen (36) fired with the bat before former Skye player Phillip Clinch (3-23) delivered a match-winning spell.

Frankston YCW fired with bat and ball to complete a clinical 147-run win over Skye.

The Stonecats rattled off 7-217, underpinned by opener Stuart Plunkett (41) and featuring an unconquered 85-run eighth wicket partnership between Nick Bloink (43no) and Sam Fulton (30no).

Jy Wulf (3-30) and Andrew Camilleri (2-27) were the pick of Skye’s bowlers.

In reply, Skye was shot out for 70 as YCW skipper Neil Barfuss grabbed 4-21 and Plunkett 3-12.

Boneo made a perfect start, dismissing Balnarring for 109 and then getting the runs none down, peeling off 0-113 off only 21.2 overs. Cam Williams set the tone early for the Pandas with 4-21, before Chris Jobling (50no) and Caolan O’Connor (50no) did it beautifully.
