The brilliant bowling performance by Red Hill’s Collett brothers, Glenn and Tom, to take an astonishing 17 wickets against Pearcedale on Saturday was a club record.
“Seventeen wickets by a family in a match is a club record,” Red Hill secretary Jay Nemec confirmed.
Glenn took 5-30 and 4-28 and Tom, 5-35 and 3-8, as the Hillmen knocked over the Dales for 72 and 52 to win outright.
The Colletts were a two-man demolition team and were on target to capture all 20 wickets before teammate Jamie McCall (3-11) spoiled the party in the second innings.
“The 20 was on for a long time until Tom gassed it,” Glenn joked.
But taking bags of wickets wasn’t new for Glenn.
In fact, his nine wicket haul wasn’t even a personal best. That came in a game against Dromana in 2011-12 when he took 12 wickets.
Glenn is like a fine wine — he’s getting better with age.
And he’s a proven finals performer, with his best figures for an innings coming in a semi-final playing for Boneo in 2006-07 when he took 8-25 to stun undefeated Mt Eliza.
Red Hill tackles a semi-final next week.
Meanwhile, Red Hill favourite Damien Holmes, who became the club’s all-time leading run scorer last month, has celebrated another special moment.
“Dominator” took a wicket last weekend in a B2 match against Carrum Downs. It was his first wicket since 1994-95. Now that is a long time between drinks.
Red Hill president Brandon Squire had some bad luck recently, suffering a knee injury while skiing in Canada.
