Cricket Southern Bayside: Jason Oldfield smashes 160 for Brighton District

Batters blasted off as the first real hot day of the season arrived in local cricket on Saturday.
The runs flowed in Round 9 of CSB Division 1, with three players raising their bats after smoking centuries.
Brighton District opener Jason Oldfield smashed 10 sixes and 16 fours in an eye-popping knock of 160 against Dingley at Dendy Park Oval 2.
He and Andrew Lasky (55) shared a second wicket partnership of 181 in a thumping total of 5-286.
But there were more batting fireworks to come in the game, with Dingley No 5 Ryan McLean launching 147 off 113 balls (9 fours and 9 sixes) to nearly pull off an amazing win for the Dingoes, who fell four runs short of victory, making 6-283 in reply.
The destructive McLean and Dingley skipper Calvin Barlow put on 206 for the fourth wicket.
At Gerry Green Reserve, Parkdale United opener Sam Amon carried his bat in the Pythons’ 18-run win over Parkdale.
He made 102 not out off 126 balls and hit seven boundaries to steer the side to 4-202. The in-form Ben Marsh smacked 50 off 41 balls.
Three Mentone batters scorched half-centuries as the Tigers racked up a big total in their win over St Brigid’s/St Louis.
Dane Heverin (71 off 97, with 3 fours and 2 sixes), Simon Cormie (64 off 59, with 8 fours) and Blake Thompson (59 off 38, with 4 fours and 4 sixes) fired in a total of 7-264.
McKinnon opener and former Ormond batter Luke Heath hammered 90 off 103 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) in his side’s win over Clayton District.
In Division 2, Middle Park’s Luke Clarke went big after his side lost an early wicket as it chased South Caulfield’s hefty 6-252.
Clarke went in at 1-7 and clubbed 160, with 18 fours and 7 sixes, as the Parkers chased down the target with five balls to spare, making 3-255.
Clarke and Tarique Jeffrey (70no off 79 balls) shared a 203-run partnership for the third wicket as the runs flowed.
In Championship Division, Bonbeach captain Tom Smith belted 85 off 84 balls (7 fours, 2 sixes) in a gallant but unsuccessful run chase against Beaumaris.
Smith and Jack Bailey (41) put on 108 for the second wicket as the Sharks made 199 in reply to Beauie’s 8-226.
Murrumbeena star Brad Kruger put away 8 fours and a six as he made 73 off 72 balls, but in the same game South Caulfield’s Elliott Bradley blasted a brilliant 71 off 45 balls (11 fours, 1 six) to steer his side to victory.
In Division 4, Dingley skipper Nathan Gough cracked 96 off 111 balls.
It wasn’t all the batters way, though.
Mentone’s Jack Lalor and (5-23) and Bentleigh’s Shane Jeffree (5-32) found a way to bags wickets.
And Middle Park’s Angus Moore and Luca Kamberis grabbed 4-7 apiece.
