A man who stole car keys and business cards from a vehicle in Beaumaris ran into trouble with a ticketing machine while trying to steal the car in Southbank just over a week later, with police releasing an image of a man they wish to speak to.

A murder charge, vacuum cleaner theft and a speedster late for a hair appointment are among incidents police have recently responded to in Melbourne’s southeast.

NOBLE PARK

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man following the death of a woman in Noble Park on July 29. Police were called to a Douglas St property shortly after the 34-year-old woman’s body was found about 9am. A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital under police guard. He was charged with murder and was remanded to face court at a later date.

DANDENONG

A vacuum cleaner has been stolen from a Dandenong store on July 20. Police allege a man entered the store and placed a Dyson vacuum in his trolley, hid it underneath a blanket and left the store without paying about 4.15pm. Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak to in relation to the incident.

CASEY

LYNBROOK

A 23-year-old Lynbrook woman involved in an alleged carjacking in Truganina on July 25 has been arrested. Investigators were told the victim, a Lara man, 49, stopped to help the offenders after they crashed their vehicle in Tilwinda Place about 12.45am. It is believed the victim was set upon by the offenders when he got out of his car. He was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground, where the offenders continued to assault him. The offenders then allegedly stole his Hyundai Accent hatchback. A 24-year-old Sunshine man was arrested on July 26 and charged with aggravated carjacking and commit indictable offence while on bail. The woman was arrested on July 30. She was charged with aggravated carjacking and obtain property by deception.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA

TYABB

A man has died after his car struck a tree at Tyabb on July 29. A member of the public came across the crash scene on Mckirdys Rd shortly after 8pm. The good Samaritan pulled the driver from the wreckage and attempted to revive him. Despite the best efforts of the passer-by and emergency services, the male driver died at the scene. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

FRANKSTON

FRANKSTON

A man who used a stolen credit card at two Frankston 7-Eleven’s on June 22 is still on the loose. The victim used their card at Frankston McDonald’s in Frankston before leaving in a taxi about 1am. Shortly after, the victim realised their wallet was missing and their card was used. The card was used at the Young St and Beach St convenience stores.

FRANKSTON

Thirteen people were arrested during a police operation in Frankston’s CBD, Bayside Shopping Centre and Frankston railway station to address anti-social behaviour. Operation Uphold resulted in an increased police presence. “The operation begun in an effort to make people feel safer in their community and to be able to go about their business in peace,” Acting Sergeant Julia Starkey said. “They were feeling fearful around the CBD in relation to young people behaving poorly. We focused on a high visibility approach with a saturated police presence over several days, involving uniform and transit members.” Forty fines were also issued during the operation.

SKYE

A 51-year-old Skye man had his company car impounded after he blew more than three times the limit in Skye on July 30. The soused motorist blew 0.159 while his female passenger hurled abuse at police about 9.15pm. The man was taken to Carrum Downs police station where the woman kept at it. According to police, the woman was asking why they were wasting her and the man’s time. A Somerville Highway Patrol member told her that they were tasked with reducing road trauma and “removing her drunk driver from the road was helping to do just that”.

FRANKSTON

Frankston police have launched Drive Safe Frankston in a bid reduce road accidents. According to police, young drivers (18-25 year-olds), particularly men, are significantly over-represented in road trauma and are much more likely to engage in high-risk driving behaviour compared with other age groups. As part of the new program, police will hand out vouchers to young drivers which will give them the opportunity to attend a customised, one of a kind, dangerous driving course in an effort to build their skills and confidence. The driving course will focus on improving skills such hazard recognition, vehicle positioning, steering and braking.

SKYE

An elderly pedestrian died after she was struck by a car in Skye on July 29. Emergency services were called to the intersection of McCormick’s and Ballarto roads about 6pm. A woman, believed to be aged in her 80s, was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene. The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined and the male driver of the vehicle is assisting police with their inquiries.

KINGSTON AND BAYSIDE

Kingston and Bayside police will be equipped with body worn cameras by next year as the statewide roll out of the technology continues. More than 11,000 cameras will be deployed by 2020 with police in Chelsea, Cheltenham, Moorabbin, Mordialloc, Bayside and Caulfield next in line to receive the cameras. A body worn camera is a tool worn on a police officer’s uniform which is used to record video and audio footage.

CARRUM

Police are warning residents to be careful following a recent spate of bike thefts in Chelsea and Carrum. “We urge you to keep your bicycles locked up and engrave them with your driver’s licence number,” a police spokesperson said. Police are looking for the owner of a Gitane Mach 1200 white/blue/black bike frame found at a Carrum home. CHELSEA

A speeding driver late for a haircut in Chelsea on July 20 has lost his licence for six months. Moorabbin Highway Patrol detected the motorist speeding at 82km/h in a 40km/h zone on the Nepean Highway outside of the Chelsea shops. The male driver was also fined $702. The driver allegedly told police “he was going fast because he was late for a haircut”.

MORDIALLOC

Police took less than a day to solve the mystery of a lost diamond ring. The 18ct white gold ladies ring with a large brilliant cut diamond solitaire — valued at $6800 — was handed into Mordialloc police station on July 22. Police found the owner and returned the ring to her the next day. “She was extremely grateful for the gold standard service she received,” a police spokesperson said.

BEAUMARIS

A laptop and car keys have been stolen from a car in Beaumaris on July 11. The victim had his work business cards and spare car key inside the laptop bag which was parked on Balcombe Rd. The key was then used to steal the victim’s car from a Southbank carpark on July 19. But the thief was unable to leave the carpark as he had no ticket and the attendants told him it would cost $85 to leave. The man parked the car and left. He is described as caucasian, in his mid-20s, tall and skinny. He was wearing distinct black ‘carre’ brand track pants, and a grey and black hoodie with ‘DGK’ emblazoned across the front, a black cap under the grey hood and white runners and was carrying a black satchel.
