Victoria Police’s road safety blitz, Operation Reset, has concluded with 1201 traffic offences detected across the four-day period. Speeding topped the list of detected offences with 405 drivers caught over the limit between August 1 and 4. Police nabbed 320 drivers exceeding the speed limit by 10km/h to 25km/h. Police conducted 11,758 preliminary breath tests and 499 drug tests during the operation and detected 69 affected drivers. Southern Metro Region Acting Commander Tony Silva said it was alarming to see the number of dangerous choices people continued to make when they got behind the wheel. “It’s a harsh reality of our roads that every offence, be it speeding, drink or drug driving, or failure to wear seatbelts, can take a life in a split second,” he said.
CASEY
BERWICK
A man accused of stealing 48 rings from a Berwick jeweller has been arrested. Casey detectives collared the 38-year-old Berwick man after the O’Shea Rd jeweller was burgled about 2.40am on August 1. It’s alleged the offender smashed a display cabinet and stole the men’s rings. The man was arrested about 3pm on the same day. He was charged with theft and burglary and bailed to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 30.
PAKENHAM
A pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car in Pakenham on August 1. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Templeton Crescent and Duncan Drive about 6.55pm after reports the 45-year-old Pakenham man had been hit by a car while crossing the road. The 26-year-old Pakenham male driver is assisting police with their inquires.
HALLAM
A Hallam factory was raided during a major police drug bust on August 1. Detectives also raided properties in Ringwood and Rowville where it was alleged they found drugs, a large quantity of cash, weapons and ammunition. A clandestine lab, drugs and chemicals were located and a 45-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Rowville, were arrested. Croydon Divisional Tasking Unit Sergeant Ell McGibbony said police had “dismantled a complex and well organised illicit drug trafficking syndicate”.
DOVETON
Raids at Bandidos clubhouses in Brunswick and Doveton on August 1 resulted in the arrest of a man and a firearm and drugs believed to be steroids were seized. The gun and drugs were located at the Brunswick clubhouse and a 48-year-old Brunswick man was arrested. Nothing was seized and no one was arrested at Doveton. The man has been charged with possess unregistered handgun, possess drug of dependence and possess ammunition without a licence.
GREATER DANDENONG
SPRINGVALE
Two thugs who assaulted a man in Springvale on July 19 are wanted by police. The alleged offenders approached the man as he was walking along Woodard St about 8.20pm. The suspects, both of African appearance, punched the victim, pulled him to the ground and ripped earphones out of his ears. The victim tried to run away but the brutes continued their assault. They eventually ran off when the victim called out for help.
SPRINGVALE
A 15-year-old boy has been charged following a series of robberies, thefts and an assault in Springvale and Cheltenham last month. The boy was arrested after a joint operation between Dandenong and Kingston detectives. The boy was bailed to face court at a later date.
SPRINGVALE SOUTH
A gang allegedly bashed a man in Springvale South on July 25. The six offenders, all believed to be aged in their 20s and of African appearance, approached the 20-year-old victim when he and a female friend were walking through Burden Park about 7.30pm. One of the gang asked for a cigarette and some money but was denied. The gang chased and kicked and punched their victim before fleeing towards an Olympic Ave BP service station when realising the victim’s friend was on the phone to police. One of the men was wearing a bright yellow hoodie.
FRANKSTON
FRANKSTON
A 16-year-old boy is in custody after he allegedly stabbed a man in Frankston on August 5. Police allege the boy smashed through the front door of the Plowman Place unit about 10.45pm. He stabbed his victim’s left hand. The victim fought back and the offender was arrested at the scene. The boy was charged with aggravated burglary and intentionally cause serious injury. The 30-year-old victim was taken to hospital and received microsurgery to his hand.
FRANKSTON SOUTH
A man has been charged with a string of offences after two police cars were allegedly rammed in Frankston South on August 1. The 21-year-old is alleged to have rammed the police cars with a stolen vehicle about 1.30am. He ran from the scene but was arrested shortly after. He faces four charges of aggravated intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police. He has also been charged over several more offences.
MORNINGTON PENINSULA
CAPEL SOUND
A man found with gunshot wounds in Capel Sound was taken to hospital on August 7. Police and emergency services were called to the area near Woodthorpe and Point Nepean roads after reports of gunfire about 2.55am. The area was patrolled and a man, believed to be in his 20s, was found in the street with suspected gunshot wounds to his legs. The investigation is ongoing.
KINGSTON AND BAYSIDE
DINGLEY
A man has blamed his steel-capped boots for speeding. The man was nabbed travelling 132km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Dingley Bypass between Tootal Rd and Boundary Rd on July 29. He allegedly explained the reason was because he was “wearing steel-capped work boots”. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days and he will be charged on summons. “We hope the driver wears more appropriate shoes for his court appearance,” a police spokesperson said.
BEAUMARIS
The Crime Prevention Leadership Program is underway at Beaumaris Secondary College. Nine students and two teachers are part of the program launched by Leading Senior Constables Lisa Dobbie and Chris Dawson. The group took a tour of the Police Academy on August 1. Senior staff allowed access to all operational areas not normally seen by the public. Following the tour, as special guests of the Blue Ribbon Foundation, the group joined members of police command including Deputy Commissioners Rick Nugent, Ross Guenther and Luke Cornelius for afternoon tea, before watching the graduation ceremony of Squads 23 and 24.

Number plates have been stolen from a car in Caulfield South on April 15. It’s alleged the plates were stolen from a car parked on Cedar St before being placed on a black Honda Jazz for a petrol drive off about 7.45pm on the same day. Police wish to speak to a woman in relation to the thefts. She is described as mid-20s with long black hair tied back, a medium build, was wearing black short jacket with blue collar, exposing her bare stomach, black leggings and black boots.
