A 16-year-old Brighton boy is in hospital after being struck by an allegedly drunk driver who then fled the scene in Sorrento overnight, police allege.

Police said that at 8pm on Tuesday on Sorrento’s Melbourne Rd, a 33-year-old woman driving a dark coloured Mazda hatchback allegedly collided with the boy, but drove off and found at the intersection of St Pauls and Melbourne roads

Police said the woman was arrested by Somerville highway patrol shortly after the collision, and subsequently blew 0.149.

A court date is yet to be set for the accused — whose driver’s license was immediately suspended — as police prepare a brief that is expected to contain a number of driving offences.
