Snakes have been spotted across suburbs in Casey, with a leading snake catcher urging residents to remain calm.
The Leader has seen several Facebook posts of locals spotting snakes in areas including Cranbourne East and Berwick.
Barry Goldsmith from Snake Catcher Victoria said tiger snakes and copperhead snakes were the most common snakes being spotted in Casey.
“The weather is getting warmer, so we are seeing more snakes out and about. Tomorrow is the first day of spring and I usually start getting busy around this time” Mr Goldsmith said.
“They’re harmless if you leave them alone, they just a want a bit of sun and they’ll be on their way.”
He said as more people were working from home, they were noticing snakes.
“There’s more people out and about in the garden and spending more time outside, so they are spotting them a lot more.”
Mr Goldsmith urged the public not to panic if they spotted a snake.
“Be nice to snakes — don’t step on them, hurt or kill them. It’s ideal not to panic and it’s always best to call a snake catcher.
“If you try to kill a snake, then that increases your chances of being bitten.”
