Footage capturing the moment an out-of-control car hurtles over a Mornington Peninsula roundabout, narrowly missing another vehicle, has left locals gobsmacked.

Shocking footage of a speeding car hurtling over a Sorrento roundabout, narrowly missing another vehicle before flipping, has been revealed.

The near miss on March 7 was caught on CCTV and the footage has since been viewed more than 30,000 times after being called out on breakfast radio.

Locals who have seen the footage were gobsmacked the driver, who is expected to be charged over the incident, escaped serious injury.

“How did they walk away from that,” one resident said.

“It’s also a miracle no one was walking along the road. It was a warm Friday night at the start of a busy long weekend.”

The incident happened about 6.30pm outside the popular Koonya General Store, which is a ten minute walk from the beach.

CCTV footage shows a speeding car overtaking another, almost stationary vehicle, on the right hand side of the single lane Melbourne Rd.

After hurtling over the roundabout at the intersection of Hughes and Melbourne roads the speeding car veered to the left before taking out a tree and flipping.

The driver, a 41-year-old Sorrento woman, crawled free from the wreck and was later taken to hospital.

She did not sustain any serious injuries.

A police spokesman said the woman blew 0.158 after the crash.

She was exepcted to be charged on summons with a range of driving offences and will “lose her licence”.
