At least 25 cars suffered flat tyres after hitting a huge pothole in Seaford on Tuesday night.
Victoria Police were called to Frankston Freeway about 9.40pm after reports at least 25 vehicles suffered flat tyres after hitting a pothole.
Police said fortunately no one was injured and tows were ordered for a number of vehicles.
A driver who suffered two flat tyres on the driver’s side of her car after hitting the pothole told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell it all happened so quickly and was “very scary”.
She said 20-30 cars were on the side of the road with their hazard lights on, all with flat tyres after hitting the pothole, looking bewildered and wondering “what the hell has just happened”.
A Department of Transport and Planning spokesperson said crews worked to complete emergency repairs on the pothole overnight.
“Periods of heavy rainfall increases the chances of potholes forming on our roads. This is why we have crews out inspecting every kilometre of our road network on a regular basis, identifying and repairing hazards if and when they do occur,” the spokesperson said.
Motorists with vehicles that are damaged due to the condition of a road may be entitled to compensation from the responsible road authority.
But in accordance with the Road Management Act, compensation cannot be paid for property damage less than the threshold amount of $1580.
