A luxury Mornington Peninsula hotel popular with corporate travellers is on the market for the first time since opening almost 40 years ago.
Sanctuary Inn on Westernport in Hastings was expected to fetch $14m following an extension that saw 11 new rooms added and a Hampton’s style make over.
Owner Phil Hageley, who built the four and a half star hotel in 1985, said poor health was forcing him to sell up.
“It’s a great opportunity for someone wanting a top quality product without a lot of competition,” Mr Hageley said.
The hotel has 41 rooms, four apartments and three studio apartments, restaurant, two function centres, wedding gazebo, pool and alfresco area.
Mr Hageley said some rooms had balconies with views of the water.
He anticipated the property’s new owner would continue to trade as a hotel.
“They’d be mad not to.
“We’re very busy during the week with corporate bookings, including some customers who stay four nights a week, 48 weeks a year.”
The 15000 sqm property is close to BlueScope Steel and Esso, making it popular with relief workers and contractors at both sites.
The sale is being handled by Manenti Quinlan & Associates.
The Sydney-based real estate agency is one of Australia’s largest hospitality industry consulting and brokerage organisations.
Leonard Bongiovanni said the hotel sale was “an ideal opportunity not be missed”.
