Rory Hastings has been jailed for four months.

A man who savagely attacked police after he broke into a woman’s house and trashed it with manure then flashed her mum was found to be carrying high-powered ammunition.

Rory Hastings was sentenced to four months’ jail and an 18-month corrections order at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on November 27, having pleaded guilty to a range of charges including assaulting an emergency worker on duty.

The 36-year-old attacked police officers, kicking one in the groin and spitting blood on another’s face, when they arrested him in a Montmorency street after 6am on September 27.

Hastings pulled two officers to the ground as they tried to arrest them, then kicked and threw punches before capsicum spray was used to get him in handcuffs.

He then spat blood and saliva on an officer’s face, saying he would kill the man’s children and grandchildren, and kicked another officer in the leg.

Police had been called to the property after Hastings had the day earlier told a woman he was “going to spray” her house with bullets.

She had then returned home early in the morning with her mum to find him sitting at the kitchen table, having broken in through a window and trashed the place with manure and broken possessions.

She called the police and walked out of the house.

When the woman and her mum went to drive away from the property, Hastings kicked, punched and spat on their car and exposed his genitalia.

Police then arrived on scene.

In his bag they found 20 rounds of high-powered ammunition and a tattoo gun.

The court heard the Dandenong North man had also committed crimes while being held in prison and had breached a community corrections order.

Magistrate Stephen Ballek said Hasting’s “outrageous behaviour” called for imprisonment.

He noted Hastings had already served 61 days’ jail.
