FRANKSTON Council chief executive Dennis Hovenden has refused to publicly respond to questions about alleged plagiarism in a column written by a councillor.
Frankston resident Mike Griffiths raised questions at last week’s council meeting relating to a column titled ‘Improving community engagement’ by Cr Quinn McCormack in the council’s Frankston City News September — Octoberpublication.

Sections of the article are identical to an article published by the Sydney Morning Herald titled ‘Why most meetings are a complete waste of time — and how to fix them’ by Marc Hudson in August last year.
Mr Hovenden told the meeting he would not read the questions out aloud, in line with Section 667 E of the council’s Meeting Local Law, but would instead write directly to Mr Griffiths to respond.
Mr Hovenden later said responding to questions by mail was “done regularly”.
Mr Griffiths said Mr Hovenden’s refusal to read out his question was “pretty ordinary”.
He said he just wanted to know if the council would be liable should the copyright owner seek redress.
“I didn’t accuse anyone by name,” he said.
Cr McCormack did not respond to questions about the matter emailed to her by the Leader.
